The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion

the rosie“Humans often fail to see what is close to them and obvious to others.”

I love Sheldon Cooper – The Big Bang Theory is easily one of my favorite shows, and I just find the character of Sheldon to be so far away from other major protagonists that every time I watch the show I come away feeling a little refreshed like, “We really can think of new things sometimes.” I know there are people who don’t agree with me, and if you’re one of those people, well, then The Rosie Project by Graeme Simsion is not the book for you.

See, The Rosie Project features Don, a very Sheldon-esque professor in Australia, who has decided to find a wife by using a multi-level questionnaire. Thanks to his womanizing best (read: only) friend, Don finds himself thrust head first into a side project (The Rosie Project) and ends up becoming quite smitten with a girl who doesn’t meet any of his detailed criteria for a suitable mate.

The results are… interesting to say the least, and that’s really the best way to sum up this book as well. It’s interesting. I didn’t find Don quite as likable as Sheldon, but he is likeable, and Rosie is a riot. Overall, it’s a fun and entertaining (if slightly unbelievable) read.
