Top 10 New-to-Me Authors I Read in 2017

1. Mitali Perkins. Mitali is a veritable wizard with a pen! I will auto-buy her books until the day I die. Her contemporary YA novel You Bring the Distant Near was one of my favorite reads of 2017 because it’s just beautiful and moving and perfect in every way.
2. Adam Silvera. I know, I know, I am wayyyyy late to this party. A ton of my blogger friends adore Adam, and I have all of his books and I follow him on twitter and bookstagram and I’ve even met him for crying out loud! But I hadn’t actually opened one of his books until I read They Both Die at the End this fall. It killed me. So apt title, I suppose. And now I know in 2018 I need to read his other books STAT.
3. S. Jae Jones. I read Wintersong at the very beginning of 2017, and it’s still on my best of list for the year because it was AWESOME. The romance was on point, the Goblin King seductive, and the writing exquisite. Definitely highly anticipating the release of Shadowsong next month!
4. Becky Albertalli. I can’t tell you how long Simon vs. The Homo Sapiens Agenda has sat on my TBR giving me reproving looks, but I read The Upside of Unrequited and fell in love. Now Simon has a much more prominent position on that 2018 TBR.  
5. Adi Alsaid. I still think North of Happy is one of the most originally-formatted books I’ve ever read! I loved the recipes at the beginnning of every chapter.
6. Jennifer L. Armentrout. Oh my goodness, If There’s No Tomorrow utterly destroyed me. I cried so freaking much.
7. Emily R. King. I am OBSESSED with Emily R. King’s The Hundredth Queen series! I have begged my way to ARCs of the first three and I am dying for more more more. If you want some awesome diverse fantasy in your life – look no further!
8.  Jay Kristoff and Amy Kaufman. Okay, technically these are two separate authors, but I’m including them as one because in 2017 I discovered the magical world of the Illuminae Files and I pretty much died, came back to life and then died again in the space of two days and two books. I can honestly say that I am not really a sci-fi lover at all, but these books are the exception! Obsidio is one of my MOST ANTICIPATED 2018 releases. I neeeeeeeeeeeed it.  
9. Nnedi Okorafor. Wow. They aren’t kidding when they call Akata Witch the Harry Potter of Nigeria. But I also kind of think they’re limiting it by calling it that because it is a world entirely its own and it’s good enough that it doesn’t need to lean on an HP comparison to get around. It’s fantastic fantasy that is absolutely unique and impossible to put down. Definitely can’t wait for another installment soon.  
10. Angie Thomas. Anyone who missed Angie’s debut work last year, The Hate U Give is living a terrible life right now because YOU NEED THIS BOOK in your life. I’ve already pre-ordered her next Garden Heights novel and I have #noregrets. I will read everything she writes.
